NAPSEC Foundation Diversity Scholarship Program

 

DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The National Association of Private Special Education Centers Foundation (NAPSEC) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for 2012. Scholarships will not exceed $2,000 per individual applicant per year. Copy and paste this information in a word document, complete and send to NAPSEC.

 

Applications are due April 30, 2012

 

 

Eligibility criteria

 

The individual must be a member of a minority group.

 

      The individual must have been accepted into or enrolled in a Special Education degree or certification program.

 

      The individual must be currently employed by a NAPSEC member program.

 

     The individual must have a written letter of recommendation from the Executive Director/President/CEO of the NAPSEC member program.

 

The NAPSEC member program must demonstrate its commitment to the individual by providing the individual with appropriate occupational opportunities that will utilize his/her Special Education degree or certification. The NAPSEC member program is urged to encourage the scholarship recipient’s attendance at the NAPSEC Annual Conference, registration will be free to scholarship winners for the the conference immediately following the year in which they were awarded the scholarship (2012 winners would be given a free registration to attend the 2013 annual leadership conference).

 

The scholarship may be renewable annually up to two years providing that proof of satisfactory progress is provided to the NAPSEC Foundation for its review when applications are requested.

 

 

Application must be complete and in correct order to be accepted.

 

Application Process

 

The attached application cover sheet must accompany all applications.

 

The applicant must submit a written letter expressing why he/she believes that they are a worthy candidate for this Scholarship Program. 

     

The letter should also describe the applicant’s background, current position and future goals.

 

The applicant must request a written letter of support from the Executive Director/President/CEO of the NAPSEC member program where he/she is employed.  The Executive Director’s letter must specify how the member program will demonstrate its commitment to the individual.  The letter of support must be sent directly by the Executive Director/President/CEO to the NAPSEC Foundation and not be part of the applicants application materials.

 

The applicant must include in their application at least one letter of recommendation by a colleague describing why that person supports the individual’s application and how the applicant demonstrates potential in their chosen field.

 

Applicant may submit other supporting letters or documentation to support their application as appropriate. Please send no more than 4 additional supporting letter/pages of documentation.

 

All applications and supporting material become the property of the NAPSEC Foundation and will not be returned.  Please do not submit original-supporting materials such as photographs or articles that you would like returned.  Letters of recommendation must be signed originals.

 

An updated resume must accompany all applications.

 

 All applications will be treated as confidential material.

 

The applicant must supply:

  • Proof of enrollment or letter of acceptance into an accredited program of study leading either to a special education degree or certification. 

  • Name of program of study in which he/she is enrolled or has been accepted.

  •  Amount of funds requested (up to $2,000)

  • Proposed use of funds.

The applicant must report on the application any other financial support being received.

 Applications will be reviewed by the NAPSEC Foundation Board of Trustees. 

 

The Executive Director/CEO of the NAPSEC Foundation will inform successful applicants and the NAPSEC member program of their selection.  Applicants not selected will also be notified.

 

Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the individual. Funds may be used for tuition, books, computer fees and other costs directly associated with the recipient’s approved program of study.
